African Ethos is a collective of skilled craftsmen who manufacture traditional African instruments using high quality materials to produce the best sound possible.

Gavin Coppenhall, musician and craftsmen ,  planted the seeds of African Ethos 20 years ago after completing his Bmus in classical music and his masters degree in Ethno musicology. Inspired to reproduce  African instruments, Gavin began crafting instruments that not only looked beautiful and authentic but were made to be played.

His workshop, situated beneath the shady oak trees of Montebello Design Centre , has developed in to a thriving hub of musicians , buyers and craftsmen. The shop itself, filled to the brim with every instrument and trinket imaginable, is well worth a visit.
